About the School
Established in 2010, under the direction of Coach Stephon Morton, Northern Virgina Wushu Academy is a professional martial arts center that teaches contemporary and traditional wushu styles along with weapons, and tai-chi.
At NOVA Wushu, our primary focus is on the development of the student, either concerning personal growth or physical exercise.
NOVA has experienced instructors to provide the opportunity for students to compete in all categories of Chinese martial arts tournaments at the local, regional, national and international levels.

Stephon Morton
Founder and Owner of Northern Virginia Wushu Academy, Stephon was born in Washington, D.C. and led a well-traveled childhood as a result of growing up in a military family. At the age of eight he started pursuing his life-long interest in martial arts through a varied curriculum of karate, taekwondo, and boxing. He became an assistant instructor there during high school.
In 2000, Stephon began his wushu training under Master Xiaolin Lu while studying at UMCP (University of Maryland at College Park).
He was selected to perform with U.S. Wushu Demo Team at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games. Soon afterwards, Stephon began helping Master Lu at O-Mei Wushu (Kungfu) coaching younger students, organizing performances, and advertising for the school.
A three time member of the U.S. Wushu Team, Stephon represented his country at the 7th & 8th World Wushu Championships and at the 5th Pan-American Wushu Championships. He has been featured in the Washington Post as well as other sources of print media (Kungfu and Inside Kung-fu magazines).
During the summers of 2007 and 2008, he trained with the Hebei and Sichuan professional wushu teams in China. Stephon now divides his time between working full time job and running Northern Virginia Wushu Academy. His passion for wushu, diverse experience, and outgoing personality makes him a good coach.
