Bryant Fong is a martial arts master based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is the head coach and co-founder of the San Francisco Wushu Team. He was taught by Sifu Anthony Chan (member of Black Belt Magazine’s Hall of Fame) and Chen style taijiquan experts, Sifu Feng Zhi Qiang (Beijing, China) and Sifu Chen Xiao Want (Chengzhou, China). Mr. Fong has also trained extensively with the Beijing Wushu Team, China’s premier wushu team. He is also well-versed in the traditional wushu styles of Northern Shaolin and Tibetan White Crane.

Mr. Fong is well-known in Northern California for skill in his famous nine-section whip, rope dart, and praying mantis forms. In November 1986, Sifu Fong was the deputy team leader of the U.S. Wushu Team, which competed at the 2nd International Martial Arts Tianjin Daily Cup Invitational Tournament (Tianjin, China). In October 1991, he was selected as the U.S. National Wushu Team Coach. He took this team to compete in the 1st International Wushu World Championships in Beijing.

Mr. Fong has coached many top wushu competitors in the United States. Currently, he’s the wushu coach for the University of California Berkeley, and is teaching taiji philosophy and applications for City College of San Francisco. Mr. Fong is active in the promotion and performance of traditional Chinese lion dancing, and performs for schools and conventions throughout the Bay Area.

Private, small group, YMCA and public college classes are available. Sifu Fong teaches various Chinese forms for both health and competition-oriented students. He also organizes an annual two-week tour and seminar in Beijing each summer. During this seminar students can study with world-class Beijing masters.

Most students are oriented toward solo demonstration competition in the hand or weapon handling forms, but if sparring is your style, Sifu Fong can lead you in the ancient style of Chinese ‘Push-Hands’ – which is now gaining popularity – or other fields. Many students practice Chen Tai-Chi hand form (a more active form than Yang), and various sword forms.
